Mobile App and PWA for Fishing Catch Reporting with Vue.js and Apache Cordova, Facilitating Marine Conservation in the Balearic Islands

Project Information

Project Name: Marine Conservation App for the Balearic Islands

Industry/Sector: Public Administration / Marine Conservation

Challenge: The Public Administration of the Balearic Islands sought to develop a technological solution that would allow fishermen to report their catches in Balearic waters, especially in designated marine reserve areas. The goal was to monitor and study the recovery of certain marine species, as well as to manage and schedule sustainable fishing periods to conserve marine biodiversity.

Implemented Solution

Overview: Arteco Consulting SL designed and developed a robust and user-friendly mobile application that enables users to report their fishing catches directly from their mobile devices. The application, created with Vue.js and Apache Cordova, was designed to be cross-platform, working on both Android and iOS. Subsequently, the mobile app was converted into a Progressive Web Application (PWA) to facilitate access without needing to go through traditional app stores, thereby increasing its reach and usability.

Technologies Used: The frontend of the mobile app and PWA was built using Vue.js, leveraging its flexibility and ease of integration with Apache Cordova for creating hybrid mobile applications. The backend was developed using REST services, integrating the app with an internal back-office for data management, all deployed on JBoss EAP within the facilities of the Government of the Balearic Islands.

Key Features: The application includes advanced features for real-time catch reporting, scheduling fishing periods based on scientific data for species conservation, and a detailed information system about marine reserves and protected species. The conversion to PWA ensures a smooth and accessible user experience from any device with an internet connection, without relying on app stores.

Results: The implementation of this solution has enabled effective monitoring of fishing activities in the marine reserves of the Balearic Islands, significantly contributing to the study and conservation of marine biodiversity. The ease of use and accessibility of the application have increased fishermen's participation in conservation programs, providing valuable data for the sustainable management of marine resources.

Conclusions

This project demonstrates the ability of Arteco Consulting SL to develop innovative technological solutions that address the complex needs of public administration and environmental conservation. The mobile app and PWA developed for fishing catch reporting in the Balearic Islands exemplify our commitment to using technology to promote sustainability and environmental protection. This success reinforces our position as a key technological partner for public administration and marine conservation.
