Modernization of the hotel reservation system with migration to the cloud and advanced technologies reducing operational costs
Projects
Project Information
Project Name: Migration to the Cloud of the Hotel Reservation System
Industry/Sector: Hospitality / Information Technology
Challenge: One of the leading companies in the global hotel sector faced the need to modernize its complex hotel reservation system, which was managed through an Oracle database with a large number of stored procedures and extensive logic in PL/SQL. The original system had limitations in terms of scalability, performance, and dependency on Oracle infrastructure. The goal was to migrate to a cloud-based solution, distributed, employing a hexagonal architecture and modern technologies such as Spring Boot and AngularJS, to increase elasticity, improve performance, and ensure fault tolerance.
Implemented Solution
Overview: Arteco Consulting SL carried out the migration of the hotel reservation system to an advanced and distributed software architecture, implementing the solution in the cloud. A hexagonal architecture was adopted, which facilitated clear separation between business logic and user or external interfaces, using Spring Boot for the backend and AngularJS for the frontend. This approach allowed for a smooth transition from business logic highly dependent on PL/SQL to a cloud environment, more flexible and scalable. As part of the migration process, over 2000 tables were deprecated, reflecting the magnitude of the original system.
Technologies Used: The project relied on Spring Boot, leveraging its capabilities for building robust and scalable enterprise applications. AngularJS was selected for the development of user interfaces, offering a rich and dynamic experience for end-users. The migration was oriented towards a cloud environment, optimizing resources and taking advantage of the benefits of distributed computing and scalability offered by the cloud.
Key Features: The adopted hexagonal architecture played a crucial role in the migration, allowing for greater flexibility in the development and maintenance of the system. The elimination of dependency on Oracle Database and the adoption of cloud-based technologies represented a significant advancement towards a more scalable, elastic, and fault-tolerant system. The deprecation of a large number of tables was a significant milestone, evidencing the optimization and modernization of the reservation system.
Results: The migration resulted in a much more efficient, scalable, and resilient hotel reservation system. The renewed platform now offers higher performance, flexibility in managing quotas and contracts with suppliers, and a significant reduction in operating costs associated with maintaining physical infrastructures and proprietary software licenses.
Conclusions
This project underscores Arteco Consulting SL's ability to address and overcome complex technical challenges in migrating critical systems to the cloud. The transformation of the hotel reservation system demonstrates Arteco's commitment to innovation and technological excellence, positioning it as a strategic ally for leading companies in the hotel sector looking to evolve their computer systems towards more advanced and efficient solutions.
